Women Need Strength Training for Weight Loss

Why do women need Strength Training for long term weight loss?

One of the major reasons why men need more food than women is that men have more muscle on their body.Generally speaking most men will have more muscle on their body than their female partner does. It is this muscle that is an active calorie burner so it makes sense to say that the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn no matter what you are doing. Muscle is an active part of your body as opposed to fat which is along for the ride. Imagine that muscle is your car and fat is the caravan being towed by your car.

The car is obviously doing work and using petrol whereas the fat is not doing much at all.  Even if the car has its motor running and is stationary, it is using petrol.  So you see the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn when doing something or nothing at all. This is loosely called your basic metabolic rate.

If you don’t do strength training you will lose muscle mass, lower your metabolism and get flabby arms and legs.

This is where the importance of strength training comes in for weight control and weight loss especially for women.

             

Women historically have tended to do aerobic or cardio training for weight control and not strength training which consequently results in:

  • Muscle loss.
  • Flabby and weak arms and legs.
  • Lower metabolic rate due to less muscle.
  • Difficulty in maintaining weight loss and management.

If a woman can maintain or slightly increase her muscle mass she will burn more calories every hour of every day…………even while standing or sitting.
